The chosen web sites which are featured, are selected purely on their merits and relevance to small business. Payment for these selections is not taken, and in that way, the editor maintains the freedom to choose in an unbiased manner, the "best sites" currently available for our largeley Australian internet scene.

We DO offer advertising spaces within this ezine, for only AU $30. Your advertisement would appear in our "classifieds" section, in which you can have a link to your URL and a brief couple of sentences of copy to go with it.

If you have a product or service relevant to the small business entrepreneur, then you can gain great results from advertising here.

WEB PAGES THAT SUCK!

Feature Article By Suzanne Weatherburn Would you believe that there is a web site which is called www.webpagesthatsuck.com ? Naturally, it stems from the US. Where else!

This is a website dedicated to critically analysing other people's websites and then publicly putting them to shame by pointing out their shortcomings.

I guess one could look on the positive side, that by doing this, they are setting themselves up as "watchdogs" of the world wide web, and forcing the internet community to plan carefully to create quality websites.

However, a cynic, (unlike moi), might suggest that it is much easier to criticize than to praise. What a pity their web site can't at the same time bestow bouquets on some of the better web sites around. Indeed, a more positive world view would be far more beneficial, I think, than constantly pointing out errors. I can't help but vaguely wonder if their own web site has been through the rigours of inspection they have heaped on others' web sites.

For a look at some model web sites which stem from Australia, you can go to www.webawards.com.au . Makes you really proud! In fact, it restores faith that we don't have to go down the path of the US, with lots of crassly commercial sites, with everything flashing like a veritable "Las Vegas", or deeply offensive or negative sites. Not that there aren't really good sites in the States, don't get me wrong. I just feel that because the US is ahead of us in this field, we have a really good chance of making our internet part of the world (ie .com.au) a better version of theirs.

So maybe, we can take a leaf from the "webpages that suck" site, and create something better. Any takers for: "sickwebsites.com.au"??
